EVERYTHING YOU CAN DO WITH SCARVES



Many uses of scarf! ingenius!



1. Belt. Make a solid colored dress look sensational or an old outfit look like new by twisting a scarf of a contrasting color around your waist.
2. Sarong. Wrap a 45- 54 inches square scarf along your arms around your waist., or low your hips; pull the fabric taut, then know the top ends where you want the opening fall.
3. Handbag. Place your make up, coin purse, other miscellany in the center of a square scarf and tie the four corners diagonally (making a tote bag from a larger scarf.)
4. Bag Sling. Is your grocery bag giving up? Tie your scarf and loop it at the bottom of the bag to support it.

5. Necklace. Fold 24inch square scarf in thirds on the bias and knot several times.

6. Robe . Wrap a scarf around your shoulders and use it cover-up when travelling or on

BISCUIT MIX


Also use it to whip up biscuits, pancakes, or waffle in a flash.


6 cups all purpose flour
3 ½ tablespoons baking powder
1 cup instant nonfat dry milk
1 tablespoon salt
1cup solid vegetable shortening


In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, dry milk, and salt. Mix well. With a pastry blender, cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Will keep 6 weeks in closed container at room temperature. Yield about 8 cups.

BIRD TREATS








Keep the backyard birds atwitter in the winter



¾ pound lard
1 cup sesame seeds
1 cup hulled sunflower seeds
1 cup crushed crackers
1/3 cup raisins
¼ cup peanut butter

Using a double broiler, melt the lard over low heat. Let cool, then transfer to a medium-size bowl. Mix in the sesame and sunflower seeds, crackers and raisins. Add the peanut butter; stir until combined. Letting overnight. Put in bird feeder or hang in netting coarse enough to allow bird to penetrate through their beaks. Yield 1 ½ cups.

Bath Salts





To revitalize your tired muscles


1 cup sea salt


1 cup baking soda


1 cup inexpensive shampoo


Fill bath tub half full of warm water. Pour the ingredients into the tub and then add more water, swirling it around with your hand to spread out the bubbles.

BATH OIL


Soothing and a great skin softener
1 cup honey


2 cups milk


1 cup sea salt or plain salt


¼ cup baking soda


½ cup baby oil


In a large bowl, combine the honey, milk, sea salt, and baking soda; stir well. Pour the mixture into a tub filled with warm water, add the baby oil and mix well.

BARBECUE SAUCE


A delicious sauce good with beef chicken or pork. And none of the preservatives found in most store-brought brands.
1 medium onion, peeled and finely chopped
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup ketchup
¾ cups water
2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoon sugar
¼ cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a medium-size saucepan. Simmer over low heat, uncovered, for 20 minutes; let cool. Will keep several days refrigerated in a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid or 6 months in a freezer container at 0 degreed Fahrenheit. Yield about 2 ½ cups.

BABY POWDER




Keep tender skin soft and dry

2 tablespoon crumbled dried chamomile flowers


¼ cup cornstarch


1 tablespoon orrisroot


½ teaspoon alum
In a small bowl mix together ingredients. Store in flour shakers or old dusting powder boxes. Do not use on a baby’s diaper rash. Yield ½ cup.

ASTRINGENT


Tightens pores and helps remove excess oil from your skin
½ lemon, sliced thin
½ orange, sliced thin
¾ cup ethanol alcohol

Place the lemon and orange slices in a blender. Add ethanol alcohol and blend until the fruits are well pulverized. About 1 minute. Using a small strainer or cheese clothe strain into a jar. Will keep 6 months refrigerated. Yield ¾ cup.

APPLE BUTTER

A spicy Low-sugar spread. The apples are cooked uncored and with their pectin add body to the butter.



4 pounds assorted apples (Cortland, Macintosh, and Northern spy) quartered


1 vanilla bean, split


2 cinnamon sticks

4 whole cloves


1. Put the apples in a large Dutch oven, cover and cook over low heat about 50 minutes or until they are soft.(the apple should contain enough moisture to keep them from burning if not add a bit of water)
2. Force the apple into a food mill into a large saucepan, discard the solids. Add the cider, vanilla bean, cinnamon sticks, and cloves; cook the mixture, uncovered, stirring frequently, over low heat about 1 hour 15 minutes or until very thick.
3. Let cool slightly, and then remove the vanilla bean, cinnamon, and cloves. While still warm, transfer the apple butter or hot, sterilized ½ pint preserving jars and cover. Will keep for 1 month if refrigerated. Yield 2 ½ cups

ANT TRAPS



Give tiny black intruders a fatal but unchemical case of indigestion
1/3 cup molasses
6 tablespoon sugar
6 tablespoon active dry yeast

Stir all ingredients together in a small bowl until it will form a soft paste. Coat strips of cardboard with the mixture or pour it into individual bottle caps then place in and around infested areas.

ANTIPERSPERANT


A rose-scented spray meant to keep you fresh all day.
1 cup water
1 cup rubbing alcohol
2 tablespoon alum
3 tablespoon rose water

ROSEWATER:
3 tablespoon rose soluble
2 cups water (use distilled if your water is hard)
2 tablespoon glycerin

Place all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Transfer the mixture to a capped bottle.
ANTIPERSPERANT:
In a small bowl mix all the ingredients and transfer into a spray bottle. Use as necessary. Also safe for everyday use. Yield 1 pint

ALUMINUM CLEANER




Removes tarnish and greasy films from cookware
½ cup cream of tartar
½ cup baking soda
½ cup white vinegar
¼ cup soap flakes
Combine cream of tartar and baking soda in a medium sized bowl. Add the vinegar and mix until the mixture form of soft paste. Add the soap flakes and transfer into a jar with secure lid; label. To use, apply with a steel wool pad, then rinse off. Store out of reach of children. Will be kept 1 to 2 years. Yield ½ cups.

ALMOND BUTTER





Tired of plain old PB and J? Here’s a nice change of pace.
2 cups blanched almonds whole or slivered
2 tablespoon vegetable oil
½ teaspoon salt

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. On an ungreased cookie sheet, roast the nuts about 20 minutes or until they are lightly browned. Let cool and transfer to blender or food processor. (For chunkier spread, coarsely chop 1/3 cup nuts and set aside.)
2. Add oil and salt and blend until creamy, working in batches if necessary. (If chopped nuts were set aside, stir them in.) Transfer to covered container. Will keep 1 month if tightly covered and refrigerated. Yield: 1 cup.

ALL PURPOSE CLEANER






For heavy-duty help when removing tough stains from countertops, woodwork, or tile.




½ cup household ammonia
½ cup washing soda
7 cups warm water




In a ½ gallon plastic jug. Combine the ammonia, washing soda and 1 cup of warm water. Cap the jug, shake briskly, and then add the remaining warm water.
To use, in a bucket, mix ½ cup cleaner with about 1 ½ gallons hot water. Before using on a delicate surfaces such as wallpapers, test on inconspicuous area. Yield: ½ gallon concentrated cleaner.

AIR FRESHENER

A spicy fragrance that will overpower even such strong odor as onions.


¼ cup dried sage


½ cup crushed bay leaves



1 cup witch hazel



In a large jar, mix all the ingredients well. Cover and let sit, unrefrigerated for 3 days. Strain out the herbs and pour remaining liquid into spray bottle. Use as necessary. Yield 1 cup.
